Tooth Decay and Peridontal Disease

Tooth decay and periodontal disease are the most common forms of dental disease.  Tooth decay, or dental caries, needs bacteria which produce acid, sugar or another carbohydrate, and time.  Dental caries is the breakdown of both the enamel and the dentin surfaces by the bacteria and sugar over time.  It’s not just the sugar that causes cavities—it’s the bacteria which produces the acid which actually causes the cavities.  A good dental plan will enable you and your family to get regular checkups with your dentist which can prevent tooth decay.
